Fun Summer Jobs for College Students

Phillip via Compfight

As a college student, you may not have time to work during the school year. But you may also like to have some extra spending cash or something to put aside for school expenses. Summer jobs present the perfect opportunity to earn money while maintaining your full-time student status. However, most companies expect workers to be available throughout the year so finding a job just for the summer months can prove challenging. Luckily, there are some jobs that are much more plentiful in the summer and that also allow you to enjoy your summer while working. Read on for some great summer job options for college students.

Tour Guide

Summer is the time for vacations, and tourist hot-spots will likely need more guides. If you live in or near a city with tourist attractions, start looking for guide opportunities with tour companies, museums, and historical sites. Not only will you learn some interesting facts in preparing for your tours, but you’ll also be visiting fun and exciting places while making money.

House Sitter

Since so many families take vacations in the summer, they’ll need to find someone to watch their homes. House-sitters may live in the house while the owner is away, or they may just drop in daily to take care of day-to-day responsibilities (getting mail, caring for pets, etc.). House-sitting is possibly the easiest summer job you can find, and may be done in addition to another job or taking summer classes.

Camp Counselor

Did you love summer camp as a kid? If so, camp counselor may be the perfect job for you. Spend your summer hiking, swimming, and doing crafts. If you have a particular skill, you might want to teach lessons such as music or art. Spread your enthusiasm to a new crop of campers and have fun while earning a paycheck.

Lifeguard

If you’re an excellent swimmer and love the idea of being out in the sun all summer, then lifeguard is the perfect summer job for you. Whether it’s at your local pool or the beach, enjoy the summer weather while keeping swimmers safe. Even if you swim like a champion, you’ll need training and certification so now is the time to get started. You can look for training classes in your area by vising the American Red Cross website.

Resort Employee

A resort vacation may be out of your budget, but if you can’t go as a guest you may still get there as an employee. Although you won’t have much time to enjoy the amenities, it’s still more exciting than working at a big box retailer or chain restaurant.

Don’t waste your summer sitting home doing nothing. Earn some money, experience something new, and have fun. If the jobs above don’t fit your needs, read our list of best part-time jobs for college students for more ideas.
