A career in hospitality management can be a great option for those who love to serve others. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it is a growing career with projected growth of six percent through 2026. If you value social interaction and creativity, hospitality management is right up your alley. Some great career options within the hospitality management field:

 

Hotel Manager

Hotel managers ensure the smooth operation of hotels and resorts. They oversee areas such as housekeeping, food service, customer service, and reception. In order to be successful in this career, you must work well with others and have a customer service mindset. You must also be self-motivated and energetic. Hotel managers can earn up to six figures, depending on the establishment. Although some jobs only require on-the-job training, a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management is often required.

Event Manager

Event and meeting managers ensure that events run smoothly and stay within budget. They oversee the venue, catering, itinerary, and finances. Many event planners are self-employed and may specialize in specific types of events (corporate, weddings, etc.). Event managers earn $78,589 per year, according to Monster.com.

Travel Agent

Travel agents help others plan vacations. They may specialize in certain types of travel, such as tropical getaways or family vacations. According to PayScale.com, travel agents earn an average annual salary of $36,611.

Restaurant Manager

Restaurant managers oversee the operations of a restaurant, from hiring and training employees to ensure customer satisfaction. They must also ensure that the restaurant maintains proper safety and hygiene to stay up to code. Restaurant managers earn $53,127 per year*.

Cruise Ship Director

Casino directors coordinate all operations of a casino, monitoring games, tables, employees and machines. They hire and train staff. They may also oversee food and beverage services in a casino. According to PayScale, director of casino operations can expect to earn an average annual salary of $89,476.

Hospitality management is not for everyone. It can be stressful and many jobs require that you be ready to respond to problems around the clock. But if you love the idea of managing a hotel, resort or restaurant it’s the ideal career fit.
