According to the Wall Street Journal, workers in the U.S. resigned from a record 4.4 million jobs in September of 2021. Many industries are experiencing problems not only retaining current workers, but attracting new talent. The pandemic has allowed workers to re-assess their career goals. As a result, many professionals are looking for better opportunities. So how can companies prevent talent loss and attract new workers in a market that favors job seekers? There are key factors that will make organizations competitive in 2022. Read on to learn more about employee retention.

How Organizations can Attract and Retain Employees in 2022

More than anything, employees want to feel valued and respected. There are many actions companies can take to ensure that employees at all levels feel appreciated.

Prioritize Health and Safety

Companies that put employee health and safety first have great reputations, leading to better talent acquisition and retention. During a pandemic, it’s even more important that the health and safety of all workers remains top priority. Ensure that all employees have proper PPE and receive frequent safety training.

Compensate Fairly

Not offering competitive wages is a bad long-term decision. Low wages means high turnover, costing more in hiring and training new employees. Low wages also reduces employee motivation which can affect client or customer experience, leading to further financial losses.

Give Sufficient Paid Sick Leave

Employees should be able to take time off if they get sick and know they will still be compensated. Offering sufficient paid leave is not just for the well-being of the individual employee, but for customers, clients and the company as a whole. Employees that have time to recover will be more productive when they return to work. And all employees will experience increased morale knowing they won’t be forced to work around a sick colleague and can take time off themselves if they become sick.

Allow for Flexibility

Many workers prefer a flexible work schedule and environment over more pay. Allowing employees to work from home when possible or choose their work hours can increase productivity and morale. It also contributes to the physical and mental well-being of workers.

Provide Growth Opportunities

Workers who don’t see room to grow are likely to leave. And job candidates will be more likely to apply and accept an offer if they know there’s room for growth within the company. Reliable and talented employees should be rewarded with promotions and opportunities to gain more skills.

Organizations that make employee health, safety and satisfaction a priority will always attract the best talent. Not only that, they’ll retain good workers and gain a positive reputation among customers, clients and others. Although prioritizing employee satisfaction may cost more upfront, it can save a lot of money in the long run.
